When I think about what some of my favorite things about Spring is, it's the chance to refresh some areas of the house, even if it is just in terms of accessories and decor. (Pretty sure my husband would disown me if I wanted to redo the entire house every year.) Spring for me also means gatherings, different than those busy holiday ones. We have casual parties and barbecues with friends, then we have showers, weddings, cocktail parties, and bonfires. Spring begins the start of a whole new season of entertaining. Whether it is inside or outside, a brunch or an evening cocktail party...it's always important that your space and decor reflect who you are, are updated, and make your guests feel welcome and want to hang around for awhile.
When my husband and I got married we did not have a big wedding or wedding registry. Instead we had a small wedding with immediate family only, a cocktail reception, and we essentially did most of the planning and details ourselves. That was what we wanted. Years later though, after we figured out what we really liked, and what our home style was going to be, it was time to shop for real dishes and decor that was nice enough to host a serious shin-dig, but also fit our casual style and personality. We found B by Brandie. They have every kind of plate, bowl or serving dish we were looking for, not to mention their designs and colors are beautiful. We had no idea dinnerware could look so good! Our normal plate pallet has been pretty neutral focusing on white dishes, but for Spring we have decided we need to refresh and are ready to bring some color back into our entertaining, a few key accessories that add just the right touch, and in essence do a little mini entertaining makeover for Spring/Summer.
As you can see from the pictures above, the color inspiration we are focused on is blues. (Definitely check out all of B by Brandie though, as they have colors to fit every pallet). It's kind of hard for us to stay away from the blue pallet, it seems to be all throughout our house, not to mention navy and indigo blues are "it" colors for 2017. This time though we are also going to layer in the bright turquoise blue for a splash of color for Spring and Summer. If you are a little nervous about bringing in such a bright bold color, pairing it with a darker one like the navy we have shown here, will temper the boldness some and give a nice balance. (We especially like the set in the middle above which is primarily navy, with a bit of the bright turquoise mixed in). I am now OBSESSED with mixing the two colors. Contrasted with some clear glass, acrylic, or white furniture and decor these colors pop.
It's not all about just plates and bowls though. We fell in love with these acrylic glasses sets that coordinated perfectly with the dishes we liked, but added a more interesting element to our table besides just having a plain old wine or juice glass. The blues and different textures compliment any Spring or Summer table.
For some final touches we have fallen in love with the accessories below. These gold napkin rings come in several engraved saying including "friends" (perfect for dinner parties), "husband", "son", "darling" and so many more. Such a thoughtful touch beyond the plain napkin rings.
The cutting board is detailed with a navy blue arrow, complimenting our color theme and perfect for a cheese or appetizer plate (Check out our related article about putting together the perfect cheese plate). Lastly they have a great line of candles in different scents, and any color that will coordinate perfectly with our dinnerware. These are especially fantastic for placing along the table for a special event, outdoor dinner, or evening cocktail dinner. (I love the black current scent, which leads with citrus notes, but has hints of jasmine, rose, and mint. Perfect for my entertaining).
