The best thing about this project is that there are SO MANY great things about this project! Really!! Not only can you use this idea for just about any occasion, (think brunch, dinner party, shower, wedding, any event or holiday) it is also super easy to pull together (It took me longer to drive to the store to pick up some fruit than it did to put this together) and low cost (this set up cost me under $30 to pull together!!!).
Oh yeah, and it smells amazing!!! Fresh flowers combined with fresh citrus fruit, it smelled as good as it looked. I started with a simple garland base of greenery. I opted to use fresh greenery from my own yard, at zero cost, with trimmings from my Hydrangea bushes and Trees out front (trees and bushes needed trimming anyways!). Some other options you can do is grab some greenery fill from a local flower shop, or some fake greenery from a craft store. If you do use some fresh greens that you grabbed from out in your yard, just make sure they are cleaned off and free of any bugs since they will be going on your table. This can easily be done on a round table by using florist tape and wire to shape the greenery and garland into a circular pattern.
Next, I grabbed one variety bouquet with vibrant blooms from a local store to add some more color. One bouquet was just right for our 6 foot table, so use that as a measure if you have multiple tables or an event. I trimmed the flowers just a few inches and scattered them throughout the garland sliding the stems in between the greenery to hide them, just showing the blooms. (Adding the fruit on will also help cover any gaps or stems showing as well).
For the fruit I picked a selection of citrus fruits: Grapefruit, Oranges, Lemons, and Limes. Grapes, cherries, Kiwis, and any other fruit that is bunched up or stays well when cut in half is great for this too! The fruit adds such a great dimension of texture, freshness, scent, and color to the table that compliments the flowers and greens so well. Not to mention you can use all this fruit and flowers later for other things - (Be sure to check out my tips on what you can do with all of this fruit at the bottom of the post - don't just throw it away!! Mimosas anyone???)
This was such an easy look to put together, so whether you are hosting a small brunch, dinner party, planning your shower or wedding, or just having a fun event I strongly recommend giving it a try!
