Check out our EASY Memorial Day D.I.Y. tips - some tasty easy dessert recipes - and our favorite Memorial Day eats. Whether you are hosting, or attending some festivities, we have some great ideas for using all of those left over jars in your house, and some fun ways to serve up some delicious food.
Re-purposing spare jars is an easy way to create some great decor to any holiday.
Mason jars are definitely still on trend for adding some rustic flare to your home or event. Lately though, I have taken to saving or searching out all sorts of jars to re-purpose for various projects or events. Here I used a couple of tomato sauce jars to hold some flowers, and a mason jar to hold some plastic silverware.
(Check out how I used other smaller jars to create some festive desserts here! )
STARS AND STRIPES JARS HOW TO
1. Get Prepped and Started - If using reclaimed or re-purposed jars, make sure to clean off any labels and glue thoroughly. Every bottle and label is different. I soaked mine in the sink overnight in really hot water, and the labels had fallen off by morning. If there is glue residue, simply scrubbing with some dish soap will often get it off.
I painted all the jars white using glossy acrylic paint and let dry for at least one hour.
3. Stars - There are lots of options you can use for the stars. I happened to have white foam star stickers already. If you have a other colored foam start already you could spray them white, or glue a star shape to the end of a wine cork and make a stamp.
4. Final Touches - You can always touch up any areas of paint that you need to with a small brush. I ended up distressing mine with some sandpaper, and sealing with a clear coat of enamel. You can wrap ribbon or fabric around the rims of the bottles as well, here I used jute twine.
Now they are ready for adding flowers to, holding utensils, straws, whatever you need for your spring/summer gatherings.
Create fun and festive ways to pass around finger foods.
You can elevate any party and finger food with some simple presentations. Even laid-back gatherings can have clever additions that will take your party to impressive status instead of the same old paper plates.. Here we made some festive paper cones to hold some easy to eat snacks allowing people to move around and mingle.
